VOC - Red Rock Canyon

It's been a while since I've posted and I have at least a couple things to update. We'll start with this...

I took my cousin Boq to work with ShadowOwl on a project with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado in the Red Rock Canyon Open Space in Colorado Springs.

Every year ShadowOwl and I do at least one project with VOC. We enjoy making the parks in Colorado better.

After hiking for about a mile or two we reached our section of the trail.

You get to see all kinds of things on these projects. There were several deer though I only managed to capture a photo of Boq checking out this track a deer had left behind.

One of the main aspects of our part of the trail was to build an armored berm.

This berm would allow for the trail to cross the washout area at the bottom of the canyon without getting washed out itself.

They, not I, for I am not so strong, moved several very large rocks to make this berm happen. Boq moved the smaller rocks into position between the large rocks to fill the gaps. He's very industrious.

Here's the finished armored berm. Boq was very proud of his part.
"Mawwkk!"

After the work was done they fed us chili and pie which we enjoyed in the beautiful surroundings of the park.

It's amazing how such a beautiful area can be so close to a downtown area. This open space park is just one highway exit South of the downtown exit for Colorado Springs. It's also a very popluar area for rock climbers and I can entirely see why. It's gorgeous.

They often give out little goodies for each project. A little something to take home to remember the project and to act as a thank you.

Boq could hardly wait to see what was in the bag.

Boq loved the candy. He surprised me though by talking about the project for the next week or so. He was so thrilled to hear that the berm he helped make would probably be there for a hundred years.
"Mawk. Mawwkk!"

As I said, excited. I like my cousin Boq. He's a good owl.

By the Creek

Doing some catch up. A couple months ago I had the opportunity to go with Shadowowl on a little journey along a nice creek outside of town. It's always nice to get outside once in a while.

I don't quite know why I was looking at nesting materials when my home is already very nice. Maybe that natural instinct is just too strong. Maybe it's just time to redecorate.

Lovely view from this boulder in the creek.

It was very peaceful listening to the water running by...

...until Shadowowl demonstrated how clumsy big people can be. He almost knocked me in. So glad I can fly.

Flew on up to a branch while Shadowowl extricated himself from his seated position in the creek. Good thing for him it was still fairly warm.

Needed a little space and time to get over my near wet experience.

On the positive side the view was great from up here.

Halloween Party 3 - Departing

Boq found some other poor soul in a super hero costume. This time a poodle in a Superman costume. Boq really tends to go on and on about the characters.

Poor Boq's hat kept slipping down over his eyes.

As the party was winding down I decided to make the rounds to say my goodbyes.

I found Kumo looking ravishing as Mulan, if not a little frightening.

She took us over to meet Gage, whose house had been volunteered.

And there goes Boq's hat again.

Halloween Party 2 - Moodini

I love dressing up for Halloween and so did everyone here. Great costumes.

This "skelebun" costume was marvellous.

As a treat for the party goers Moodini was foretelling the future in his crystal ball.

I'm a little skeptical but I thought it would be fun.

He was predicting that I would meet up with an old friend. Not really a surprise since I was invited by an old friend.

But I must say it was marvellous to see my friend Peppermint. It was great meeting Marigold and Lex in person finally.

Halloween Party 1 - Arriving

We made it to the party though we did have a rough patch when I told Boq he was cut off from the candy until the party. He's one hyper bird.

Boq has already abandoned me for...

...Batman. Did I mention that Boq likes superheroes?

There were several really nice people at the party.

Chatted for a time with a delightful young lady named Emily who was dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

Off to mingle some more.
